Gallatin Nazarene Weekly Update –February 15, 2012
“This is the day that the Lord has made, I WILL REJOICE and be glad in it!”
“I” will rejoice… Will you make a personal decision to trust Jesus today regardless of what comes your way?
I “will” rejoice… Will you make a conscious decision to trust Jesus today regardless of what comes your way?
I will “rejoice”… Will you make a personal, conscious decision to “rejoice in the Lord always and again I say, ‘REJOICE!’”?
Depending on what you are facing today, you will need to make one of those decisions. For me, I will “rejoice” – I will trust Jesus today as I fight the temptation to struggle under the load rather than casting all my cares on Him. I will “rejoice!” as I fight the temptation to try to handle everything in my own strength. I will “rejoice!” because the world around me needs to see the difference Jesus is making in my life. I WILL REJOICE!
February Church Board Meeting will be TONIGHT Wednesday, February 15 at 7:00PM.

Music Notes from Brother Nick:
God is good! Yes He is!
Today I have been going through lots of music. I came across one of my favorite songs, The Love Of God.
Here is the last verse;
Could we with ink the ocean fill, and were the skies of parchment made,
Were every stalk on earth a quill, and every man a scribe by trade,
To write the love of God above would drain the ocean dry;
Nor could the scroll contain the whole tho' stretched from sky to sky.
O love of God, how rich and pure! How measureless and strong!
It shall forevermore endure. The saints' and angels' song.
There is on thing for sure....we are loved! Praise God!
I'm still looking for men to join the men's chorus, we need about 10 or 12.
And I need some help with the outdoor event coming in September.
God Bless You,
Nick

Gallatin Nazarene Weekly Update –February 8, 2012
What a great week! God has been blessing us. Each week new people are seeking us out to help them Find Jesus. I believe we really want to be
“A Church Family Helping People To Find, Know, Love and Serve Jesus.”
This week’s Mission Statement Sermon: “Helping People to Know Jesus”, Colossians chapter 4.
I am hosting a New Members/Welcome to the Church of the Nazarene Class during the Sunday school hour. If you are interested in learning more about the Church of the Nazarene, please join us as we meet in the Pastor’s Office. In anticipation of receiving New Members, I would like to meet with all of you who are interested in joining this local fellowship on Sunday morning, February 19 at 9:45am in the Pastor’s Office. We will plan to receive New Members on Sunday morning, February 26.
One of the ways we are reaching out to our church family is through this email newsletter. Pastor Stephen, Pastor Emily and Brother Nick all use email to contact the people serving in various ministries. I really enjoy getting the emails from Brother Wade Powers and Kim Sullivan – both of whom are encouraging and informing their Sunday school class members and keeping us aware of various prayer requests.
Brother Wade told me once that, “speculation is inversely proportional to information.” Sunday night I will be sharing from God’s Word and will also take some time to keep you up to date about what is going on in Children’s Ministries. We are also excited that Ann Downing will be singing for us in the evening service. We will receive a Love Offering for Ann and we look forward to her ministry. Come prepared for a wonderful evening together.
Keep praying. Keep seeking. Keep loving!
Congratulations to Officer Scotty King – Tennessee Officer of the Year!
Soup-‘er Chili Bowl – Sunday, February 5, 5:00PM in the FLC.
We had a wonderful time this past Sunday night for our Soup’er Chili Bowl event. More than 70 adults, teens and children enjoyed a fun evening of good food, good fellowship and a pretty exciting “Big Game.” We presented Pastor Emily with a beautiful plaque and a gift from the church for her ministry to our church and our children. Pastor Emily has done some great things for our Children’s Department and we will miss her excitement and enthusiasm.
Special thanks to everyone who made our Soup’er Chili Bowl a success – the food was outstanding and the fellowship was meaningful.
Nazarene Safe Update:
As we have mentioned several times, the Churches of the Nazarene are under a court order to instruct, educate and inform their people about Child Sexual Abuse by way of the NazareneSafe program. This is not a local activity and it is not just for children’s workers or teachers. This program has been mandated for everyone who has access to our children.
The Nazarene Safe program consists of 7 10 – 12 minute sessions that must be completed and your participation documented. If you presently work with our children or teenagers, if you have reason to be in the educational wing of our building (this includes the Ohana Sunday School class), or if you have a desire to be involved in Children’s Ministry or Youth Ministry in the future, you must complete this program. Actually, it will be beneficial for anyone who attends our church.
Folks, these are the times in which we live. Please help us reach compliance by participating in this program. You may contact Pastor Emily for more information. We’ll make the schedule available in all our communications.
Music Notes from Brother Nick:
Praise the Lord! This is the day that the Lord has made!
It is a joy to be serving Jesus. When I think of all the choices we have from day to day, it all pales in comparison to serving the Lord.
This Sunday 2-12-12 we are blessed to have Ann Downing singing in our evening service. Many of you know Ann as a regular on the Gaither videos. She had a cancellation and was gracious to consider us. Let’s please do all we can to spread the word about Sunday evening. I know she would appreciate a good attendance.
The men’s chorus is picking up a little steam. I’ve already had some men commit to it. I need about 10 or 12 men. So if you have any interest in singing this is a great opportunity to use your talent.
I’m still working on putting together a team to help with our outdoor event on September 1st. I need help in the areas of baking contests, staging, dealing with the city of Gallatin, specialty entertainment for the kids, music, sound, booth setup, and probably quite a few things I haven’t thought of yet. Please prayerfully consider contributing your talent to this event.
Psalm 96:1 (LB) Sing a new song to the Lord! Sing it everywhere around the world! Sing out his praises! Bless his name. Each day tell someone that he saves.
God Bless You,
Nick Bruno

Prayer Request – The Fireside SS Class sponsors several children from other countries. One of those children was Tamil from India. We can no longer support her because of the persecution in that area. We have been given another child to support from India, but my heart is saddened that we cannot support Tamil financially. Tamil still needs our prayers and that we can continue to do.
From NMI Prayer mobilization Line:
A text message from Pazzina Ken, a listener of World Mission Broadcast's Krai Bilong Ol Meri radio program in Papua New Guinea (PNG) said, "When your program airs the radio drama, it really touches my heart. I am a mess. Please can you help?" Pray for Pazzina and for the women who produce the radio program as they follow up with her and many other listeners who send text messages asking for help.
Please pray for the Pokhara area of western Nepal and the people who live there. Leaders are planning to start a new ministry within the next month in this area. Pray that the Lord will open the door for His work to be expanded in Pokhara.
Nazarene churches in Arab countries have few commentaries in Arabic. Recently, the Arabic Literature Committee completed translation of a commentary on the book of Romans from English to Arabic. The committee printed 1,500 copies, with 200 reserved for Nazarene pastors who speak Arabic. Pray for each pastor and lay person who uses this new commentary, that their understanding of holiness theology contained in Romans will be enhanced and shared effectively with people in their communities. Gallatin Nazarene Weekly Update –February 1, 2012
We had a great experience on Monday night as we gathered in the presence of Jesus for a wonderful time of praise, worship, contemplation and prayer. Our thanks go to Kathy Frizzell for her leadership and sensitivity in this night of worship. Living daily in the presence of Jesus is our goal. Remember, where you work is not just your job, it’s your mission field and God has placed you there for a purpose. Where you go to school is not just your learning experience, it’s your mission field and God has placed you there for a purpose. Where you live is not just a comfy neighborhood, it’s your mission field and God has placed you there for a purpose.
God wants us to be a church made up of people who pray. We must pray if we are going to seek the face of God and hear the voice of God.
God wants us to be people who love. “They will know we are Christians by our love!”
God wants us to be people who live the lifestyle of Jesus.
If there is a “disconnect” between your life on Sunday and your life on Monday, you need to rededicate your life to prayer.
This Sunday we will partake of Holy Communion and I will begin preaching through our Mission Statement:
“A Church Family Helping People To Find, Know, Love and Serve Jesus.”
I will also host a New Members/Welcome to the Church of the Nazarene Class during the Sunday school hour. If you are interested in learning more about the Church of the Nazarene, please join us as we meet in the Pastor’s Office.
We will plan to receive New Members on Sunday morning, February 26. Please contact the church office if you are interested in the class and becoming a member of this local fellowship.
We will participate in the sacrament of Holy Communion on Sunday morning, February 5 at the close of both services. This will begin our practice of partaking Holy Communion each month.
Soup-‘er Chili Bowl – Sunday, February 5, 5:00PM in the FLC.
We will enjoy a time of family fun and fellowship as we watch the “Big Game” together on the Big Screen!
Activities for the children, lots of food and a Super time together.
You can bring Soup or Chilli and your own chair (I’ve got a great recliner!)
[Pastor Stephen is lining up some young men with trucks to help with your chair – just call the office for info.]
If your last name starts with A-K please bring chips; L-Z please brings drinks.
We will also have a dessert auction with the proceeds going to Youth Ministry. For the First Quarter of the game this will be a “silent auction”. Pastor Stephen will conclude the auction at the beginning of the Second Quarter.
We will honor Pastor Emily for her ministry.

TONIGHT, FEBRUARY 1, SESSION #2. Pastor Emily will facilitate this program which will be presented in the Fireside Class Room.
SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 5 AND 12 – The NazareneSafe program will be offered during the Sunday school hour in the Youth Sanctuary hosted by the Ohana class.
Year-end Contribution receipts have been sent to those for whom we have contact information. If you know of anyone who does not receive their receipt, please contact the church office.
Music Notes from Brother Nick:
Greetings all!
Well, I’m sure you all have noticed that I’m back leading songs from the piano. Believe me that is not by choice, but out of necessity. I realize that having someone standing in front to lead the songs is very important to some of you. It is important to me, too. Please pray with me that the Lord will provide that person. We have been speaking with several people but they have not stepped forward yet.
Worship is something I am very passionate about. I encourage you to come to church with anticipation. Come expecting to join in. Come expecting a blessing. My prayer is that the worship service will be a time of anointing and a time of refreshing. Come believing for a miracle. God is good … all the time and He inhabits the praises of His people. He wants to bless us in every way. Come with faith and a desire to glorify Him.
Psalm 145:1, 2 (NIV) – I will exalt You, my God the King; I will praise Your name for ever and ever. Every day I will praise You and extol Your name for ever and ever.
Praise the Lord!

I won't be with your kids after this Sunday in KIDcity, but there is a team of people dedicated to keeping things hopping in Children's Ministries here at GFCN. I know they will have your full support in the weeks to come. If you see an area where you can be of use, please contact Pastor Tim and let him know. Your willingness to help will be a blessing to everyone involved.
Parents, Sixth Graders will be heading to the youth group tonight! We have spent much time and prayer planning for this moment, and HERE it is! Your 6th grader will start in the youth sanctuary with Pastor Stephen and then transition to their True Love Waits study with the rest of the middle schoolers. Stan Jones and Josh Baker will be leading the boys and Sandi Jones, Kim Sullivan, and Tammy Wallace will be leading the girls. There will be a TLW service at the end of this study, so be watching for details!
The rest of our elementary kids will begin a LOVE series tonight with Allison King. Next Wednesday night will be the Wacky, Tacky Valentine's Day party, with more fun to follow in the weeks to come!
I am going to miss being with your kids on Wednesday nights and Sundays! Know that you are in our prayers and that we anticipate great days ahead. Above all else, remember that little eyes are watching you! Focus on being a good example to your kids during this transition! Show them how a Christian prays, how a Christian speaks, and how a Christian acts despite circumstances that we don't like (like another Children’s Pastor coming and going). It is during times of transition and uncertainty that we find the teachable moments with the most impact. I challenge you to impact your kids, your church and your community with your Christ-like attitude.

Eunice has served as associate pastor, adjunct professor at MidAmerica Nazarene University, and Nazarene Missions International Global Convention coordinator twice. She served as the Global NMI President from 2001-2009. As Global NMI President, she was privileged to travel throughout the U.S., Canada and all six world regions. She currently is serving her second term as the North Central Representative and Vice-President on the Global NMI Council. Eunice is also the Kansas City District NMI President.
She is the Executive Pastor at the Fairlawn Church of the Nazarene in Topeka, Kansas and also serves as the Chaplain for the State of Kansas House of Representatives.

Eunice is married to Ken Brubaker. They reside in Topeka, Kansas.
Gallatin Nazarene Weekly Update –January 25, 2012
I had a great time with my extended family this past weekend in Richmond, Virginia. My oldest brother, Jerome, has been the pastor of the Southside Church of the Nazarene for 25 years and we all joined together to celebrate that milestone in his life and the life of the church.
I always enjoy being with my brothers because of their experience and insight. Jerome mentioned a story that is appropriate as we choose to respond to God’s call to prayer. A pastor preached a sermon that was truly anointed by God. His congregation openly responded to the message and experienced a great outpouring of God’s power. The pastor had been invited to preach at another church that evening and several of his people decided to attend the service with their pastor. He decided to preach the same sermon that evening. Both the pastor and the people were stunned when the message fell flat on the new congregation. On the way home that evening, the pastor mentioned to those riding with him that “powerless preaching is God’s curse on a prayer-less people.”
That gives reason for pause. What kind of church do we want to be?
God wants us to be a church made up of people who pray. We must pray if we are going to seek the face of God and hear the voice of God.
God wants us to be people who love. “They will know we are Christians by our love!”
God wants us to be people who live the lifestyle of Jesus.
If there is a “disconnect” between your life on Sunday and your life on Monday, you need to rededicate your life to prayer.
Hey, if you want me to be a better preacher, just pray that God will help me! If you want me to be a better pastor, just pray that God will help me.
And while you are praying for me, you can be sure that I will be praying for you, too. I’ll be praying for our men to be better men, husbands, fathers and workers. I’ll be praying for our women, to be better wives, mothers and workers. I’m praying for our teenagers to go deeper with Jesus so they will be able to stand firm in the midst of a society that is trying to tear them apart. I’m praying for our children that they will learn early to love Jesus and trust Him with their lives. And, oh, by the way, Mom and Dad if you want your children to love Jesus they need to see that you love Jesus!
In February, I will be preaching through our Mission Statement each Sunday morning.
Sunday, January 29, Pastor Stephen Kihnley will be preaching in the morning services and we will have a 5th-Sunday Singspiration in our Evening Service. Our Teenagers participating in the District Extravaganza will be featured.
While at the Resurrection Conference last weekend our teens were told about a website that many of you may also find helpful. If you will log on to ignitionseven.org you will find a powerful 7 day video-based Bible study that will encourage you in many ways.
TONIGHT, JANUARY 25 AND NEXT WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 31 – SESSION #2. Pastor Emily will facilitate this program which will be presented in the Fireside Class Room.
SUNDAY, JANUARY 29, FEBRUARY 5 AND 12 – The NazareneSafe program will be offered during the Sunday school hour in the Youth Sanctuary hosted by the Ohana class. In this time-frame the program will take 3 Sundays to complete.
Please help us reach compliance be participating in this program. You may contact Pastor Emily for more information. We’ll make the schedule available in all our communications.
Music Notes from Brother Nick:
My how time flies! Did you realize that it is a little over 2 months to Easter? Wow…we just finished Christmas!
The choir will be starting to learn some new and exciting Easter music. Now is the time to get involved.
I heard from many of you at Christmas who, after hearing the program, said, “I regret not joining the choir. You can count on me Brother Nick, as soon as the New Year starts, we are joining the choir.”
Don’t miss out on another opportunity to get involved.
I am also considering starting a Men’s choral group. It depends on whether or not we have enough men who will commit to it. Please let me know if you have any interest in this. You can reach me at church anytime and let me know.
Psalm 108:1 (NIV) My heart is steadfast, O God; I will sing and make music with all my soul.
God Bless You,
Nick Bruno

PASTOR'S UPDATE--Jan 20, 2012
By now most of you have heard or read that Pastor Emily Mingledorff has tendered her resignation as Director of Children’s Ministries. It was with sadness that I accepted her letter.
Pastor Emily has brought us to a wonderful place in our Children’s Ministries Department and we are extremely grateful for her hard work and dedication to see God’s Kingdom grow. Because of her efforts, our children are safer while in our care and our facilities are brighter and more exciting.
God will continue to work in our lives as we continue to trust His Leadership. We will continue to pray for Pastor Emily and her family during this time of transition and for her future ministry. I believe that God has placed His hand on her life and that she will be used by Him in the days ahead.
For several weeks the plan has been for Pastor Emily to lead our Sunday morning worship services this week. Keep her in your prayers as she prepares to preach. Also, be sure to express your love and appreciation to Pastor Emily and her family.
Pastor Stephen and several adult volunteers will be taking a group of our teenagers to Gatlinburg for this weekend’s “Resurrection Conference.” This will be a great time of spiritual growth for our teens. Be praying for them as they travel and worship together.
By the way, did you know that several of our teens are involved in a spontaneous, student-led meeting of Christian teens who gather around the flagpole at Gallatin High School each morning? As I dropped Abi off this morning, I was blessed by the sight. God is on the move in our schools!
Sunday night, Rev. Robby Kirkham will host a very special video presentation that will challenge your thinking about several issues. Pastor Emily will take the children out following the offering time for a special time together.
Also, Mark Hall will begin an elective class, “I don’t have enough faith to be an atheist,” on Sunday night at 6:00 in the senior high Sunday school classroom.
Have you taken a moment to encourage anyone today? I’ve often been in situations or circumstances that were frustrating or aggravating only to open a card, an email or take a phone call with just the right words to encourage me or calm my spirit. Isn’t God’s timing perfect?
If God tweaks your spirit, practice doing exactly what He’s telling you do. Who knows, you just must speak the peace of Christ to someone at just the right time.
My brother, Jerome, is celebrating his 25th anniversary as the pastor of the SouthSide Church of the Nazarene in Richmond, Virginia this weekend. This spring, my brother Michael will celebrate 22 years as the pastor of the Bethel Church of the Nazarene here in Nashville. My father was the District Superintendent of the Illinois District for more than 13 years and pastor at Clearwater Central Church of the Nazarene for nearly 10 (in retirement!). My father-in-law pastored several churches for more than 10 years. I was a full-time Evangelist for more than 20 years and we lived in Mount Vernon for more than 30 years (in the same house for 17 years).
God did not bring us to Gallatin because I needed a “break” from Evangelism. He was preparing my heart, just as He has been preparing your heart, to be in this place at this time for this purpose. I want to be a right-relationship, totally-trusting, completely surrendered, filled with the Holy Spirit pastor listening for God’s voice and trusting God’s plan so that I can lead you into becoming a right-relationship, totally-trusting, completely surrendered, filled with the Holy Spirit individual listening for God’s voice and trusting God’s plan so that together we can become a healing-power, miraculous-signs-and-wonders, building-shaking, all-filled-with-the-Holy Spirit Church.
We are experiencing some great times in our prayer meetings on Wednesday nights. God is calling us to be people of prayer. As a result, Satan is angry. He will not just sit still and let you be right-relationship, totally-trusting, completely-surrender, filled with the Holy Spirit individual. He will throw in distractions, hurt, and uncertainty and will do his best to drive a wedge between you and God.
Satan will not just sit still and let us become a healing-power, miraculous-signs-and-wonders, building-shaking, all-filled-with-the-Holy Spirit Church.
He will sow doubt, skepticism, apathy and complacency and will do his best to drive a wedge between where we are and where God wants us to go.
But God has a different plan. And do you know what? I’ve read the last chapter of the Book. We Win!
Greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world.
In this world you will have tribulation but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world!
We’ve been made more than conquerors through the blood of Jesus Christ.
I think I’ll just keep making sure I stay up to date in my relationship with Jesus, I’ll keep trusting God, I’ll keep surrendering to Him and I’ll submit to the leadership of the Holy Spirit. Sounds pretty exciting, doesn’t it?
Will you join me on the journey?
Have a great weekend. I am praying for you.
Pastor TimGallatin Nazarene Weekly Update –January 18, 2012
What does God want us to do?
He wants to live in a relationship close enough to Him to hear His voice. God is secure enough that He doesn’t need to raise His voice – He still uses a “still, small voice.” It’s up to us to live close enough to hear him speak.
We’ve been having some great times of prayer in our Wednesday night prayer meetings and in our Sunday services. At the same time, we are coming up against the Enemy. Whenever God’s people pray, Satan raises an objection. He wants you to be distracted and fearful, irritated, aggravated and frustrated. He wants you to focus on the petty and the personal and he loves to make you feel like a victim.
Let me remind you that we have been made more than conquerors through the blood of Jesus Christ. Greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world. Can anything separate us from God’s love? NO. God is on the throne today and no matter what you are going through He is working in your life.
In the past week I’ve 5 people inquire about the next Membership Class and joining this local fellowship! God is on the move and we better get packed and ready to roll. Thanks for joining us on the journey.
In February, I will be preaching through our Mission Statement each Sunday morning.
“To Find, Know, Love and Serve Jesus.”
I will also host a New Members/Welcome to the Church of the Nazarene Class during the Sunday school hour. We will plan to receive New Members on Sunday morning, February 26. Please contact the church office if you are interested in the class and becoming a member here at First Church.
We will participate in the sacrament of Holy Communion on Sunday morning, February 5 at the close of both services. This will begin our practice of partaking Holy Communion each month.
COMING UP:
Sunday, January 22, Pastor Emily Mingledorff will be preaching in the morning services and Rev. Robby Kirkham will host the evening service which will feature a powerful video documentary.
Sunday, January 29, Pastor Stephen Kihnley will be preaching in the morning services and we will have a 5th-Sunday Singspiration in our Evening Service. Our Teenagers participating in the District Extravaganza will be featured. Our children will be singing as well.
It is with deep regret that I pass along this letter of resignation from Pastor Emily Mingledorff. We have spoken at length about this decision and it has been bathed in prayer. I believe that we have been growing toward a very effective Ministry Team and I am saddened by Pastor Emily’s decision.

Reverend Tim Hancock and the Board of Gallatin Church of the Nazarene
407 North Water
Gallatin, TN 37066
Pastor Tim and Members of the Board,
Thank you for the opportunity to minister with you at Gallatin First Church of the Nazarene. I appreciate the opportunities you have afforded me to answer God’s call on my life to full-time ministry. However, it is with a heavy heart that I tender my resignation as Director of Children’s Ministries. I submit my resignation based on the needs of my family at this time, as well as the needs of Gallatin Church of the Nazarene. My last Sunday as Children’s Pastor will be February 5, 2012.
It is through my time at Gallatin Nazarene that I was made fully aware of God’s call, and because of Pastor Tim Hancock’s encouragement that I answered it. I owe Pastor Tim gratitude for opening the door, and I owe many of you thanks for the encouragement to proceed with my call. I will continue answering God’s call to ministry through continuing my education over the months to come.
Our family will attend another church in the area after February 5, so as to afford the next Children’s Pastor the opportunity to facilitate relationships within Gallatin Nazarene. Alan and I feel this is best for GFCN’s congregation, staff, and our family. I know you will embrace that next special staff member with open arms and assist them in a smooth transition for our children and families. I have no doubt that you will be supportive and encouraging of GFCN’s entire staff in the months to come.
Please know that you are loved very much, and that you will continue to be in our prayers. God has great things in store for Gallatin, and He wants GFCN to be a big part of it! I encourage you to prayerfully seek God’s guidance and submit to His will so God may be glorified through His church.
Grace and peace,
Emily Mingledorff
Nazarene Safe Update:
As we have mentioned several times, the Churches of the Nazarene are under a court order to instruct, educate and inform their people about Child Sexual Abuse by way of the NazareneSafe program. This is not a local activity and it is not just for children’s workers or teachers. This program has been mandated for everyone who has access to our children.
Continuing TONIGHT, January 18 and continuing for several more weeks, Pastor Emily will facilitate this program which will be presented in the Fireside Class Room. There are 7 10 – 12 minute sessions that must be completed and your participation will be documented.
Please help us reach compliance be participating in this program. You may contact Pastor Emily for more information. We’ll make the schedule available in all our communications.

Psalm 111:2, 3 (NIV) Great are the works of the Lord; they are pondered by all who delight in them. Glorious and majestic are his deeds, and his righteousness endures forever.

The Nazarene Safe segments begin TONIGHT at 6 pm, and are being led by Pastor Emily in the Fireside Room.

Please note that 6th graders are welcome to join Pastor Emily on Sunday evenings in KIDcity. There will be a parent meeting soon, so watch for details in both Children's Ministries and Youth Ministries.
TOTtown SUNDAY SCHOOL NEWS:
We now have a Sunday School teacher for our Pre-K class. Jeni Sterling has accepted the PreK class, and she brings much experience with her. Jeni taught preschool for many years and is currently taking classes to pursue her degree in elementary education. Jeni is excited to join our incredible team of preschool and elementary Sunday School teachers, and we are even more excited to have her!
But that's not all the important news in our Sunday School department! We have so many kids in the PreK class that we have decided to do something a little different for a while. Bev Cain (our three's and four's teacher in the room with the purple carpet) and Jeni have decided to try team-teaching. Bev will host half the kids for games and crafts, and Jeni will host the other half of the kids for the Bible story and snack. Then the kids will switch rooms so they can complete the other half of their lesson. I'm sure we will have some kinks along the way, but
I'm excited about this rotation! I think the kids will enjoy it, and our teachers will have smaller groups so our kids will get more attention. We will let you know where your child will start when you check in at KIDcentral, Sunday.
HELP NEEDED! Lelia Coward has decided to step aside on Wednesday nights and Sunday nights to allow another volunteer to enjoy our PreK kids. If you are interested in helping us build a strong PreK program on Wednesday or Sunday nights, please let me know, asap. Lelia has worked with our PreK for many years and will be missed! Make sure you give her a big hug around the neck for all her hard work and years of service. She is a great example of someone with a servant's heart!
SUNDAY NIGHTS IN KIDcity: We noticed something this past Sunday night: our kids (and parents) want a program especially for kids on Sunday nights! Pastor Emily is working on a curriculum for our Sunday nights together. Right now the plan is to begin in the main sanctuary for worship and then head to KIDcity (in the youth sanctuary) after the offering is received. We hope to see you there!

Gallatin Nazarene Weekly Update –December 21, 2011
What an exciting season! Abi is counting the days to Christmas. Jo is cleaning up from the staff dinner, Board dinner and Open House and making her final preparations. I’m trying to figure out a time to get some gifts home and wrapped without either of them knowing about it. Folks will be travelling. Families will be gathering. Wow.
Maybe you need to schedule some “down time” before you get overwhelmed. Maybe you are already overwhelmed. Remember, Jesus came to bring us PEACE – not the kind of peace that the world claims to offer, but PEACE that passes all our understanding! “Peace! Peace! Wonderful peace, coming down from the Father above! Sweep over my spirit forever, I pray, in fathomless billows of love.”
“Peace like a holy and infinite calm, wonderful peace, wonderful peace;
Like to the strains of an evening psalm, I have peace, sweet peace.”
Don’t miss the opportunity to spend time with Jesus! Merry Christmas! Be safe.
I am thankful for what God is doing in our lives and in His Church. The New Year will bring some changes both personally and corporately. I have been praying and the board members are praying for clarity and direction. God has some exciting days in store for us in the New Year. We need to join together in prayer so that God will reveal His plan to all of us. We must be bathed in prayer so that we do not put personal convenience ahead of what God is calling us to do.
It was just over a year ago that Jo and I drove down here for the interview with the Church Board. (My, how time flies!) Many things have changed in our lives and in the life of our church. There are some days when I wonder if I misunderstood God’s call. But I am convinced that God has brought us together for this specific time to do His work in our community. I am praying that God would let us “get on the move!” And, I am praying that we will be ready to march when God says, “March!”
Here we go! It’s going to be quite a journey!
End of the Year Contributions: December 25 will be the last Sunday for 2011 charitable contributions. Donations/offerings made on Sunday, January 1, 2012 will be counted as 2012 charitable contributions (even if you wrote the check in 2011). If you mail contributions, the envelope needs to be put in the mail in 2011 for it to be counted as a 2011 charitable contribution. (Received from Clergy Financial Resources)
Music Notes from Brother Nick:
The last two Sundays have been fantastic. The Booth Brothers Christmas Concert and the Children's program under the direction of Pastor Emily both proved to be wonderful events for our church. We had a considerable number of visitors for both events, and that's what it's all about...reaching out to others.
We are right in the middle of the Christmas season and it's all very exciting and wonderful. It's the best time of the year to tell others about Jesus.
In one more week we will begin 2012 and the choir and others involved in the music program will embark on a new musical adventure...won't you join us? If you have any interest in joining any part of our music program, this is the right time.
Just contact me here at the church.
Psalm 146:1, 2 (NIV) Praise the Lord. Praise the lord,O my soul. I will praise the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.
God Bless You,
Children’s Ministries News from Pastor Emily
We had a packed house Sunday night for our Children's Christmas Musical! We wish to thank everyone who worked so hard to support and encourage us as we attempted to share the news of Emmanuel through drama and music. The kids did a FABULOUS job on all fronts: they knew their lines, they knew their music, and they knew the message! Encourage them to continue spreading the message that "God Has Come" through the remaining days of this Advent season.
We are looking forward to having a special time together tonight. We will gather in the Youth Sanctuary and watch a video of our production of Chris-Myth Busters. Send your child in their pajamas with a blanket and pillow so they can relax and enjoy seeing themselves minister. It will be a fun, laid-back night of fellowship and celebration. Parents are invited to assist us tearing down the set in the sanctuary.
Don't forget about this Sunday's special service time at 10:00. We don't often get to celebrate Christmas Day on Sunday, so make sure to join your church family as we celebrate the real reason for the season! Please remember that this special service will be a Family Worship Service for kids of ALL AGES. We are asking our volunteer preschool and nursery staff to have a Merry Christmas with THEIR families in our service. Therefore, there will be no childcare available for any age. If you see one of our volunteers please give them a hug and let them know how much you appreciate them and their ministry to our congregation.

Gallatin Nazarene Weekly Update –December 14, 2011
As we draw near to the fourth Sunday of Advent – PEACE – I am reminded of Jesus’ words of encouragement to His Disciples. In the midst of confusion, uncertainty and fear, Jesus, the Prince of Peace, has these words for us:
John 14:27 - "I am leaving you with a gift - peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give isn't like the peace the world gives. So don't be troubled or afraid. [NLT]
Isn’t it great to know that Jesus can bring us PEACE? I know that the pace is quick and the time is short and the frustration is high… Could you use some PEACE today? Is what you are stressing out about really that important? Could you use some PEACE today? Have you taken any time for Jesus during the hustle and bustle of this “Holiday” Season? God has told us to “be still and know…” Be still… Jesus wants to give you PEACE today.
We are looking forward to Sunday, December 18 – our children will be featured in the morning services and will perform their Christmas Musical – “Chris-Myth Busters” – in the 6PM Service.
Thursday, December 15 is Compassionate Ministries Day at Lenny’s Sub Shop on Nashville Pike (across from Wal-Mart). From Noon to 9PM let them know that you are from the First Church of the Nazarene in Gallatin and they will send us 15% of your purchase for our Compassionate Ministries Fund. Hey, you gotta eat!
JoAnne and I will be hosting the Church Board on Friday night and we are excited about our Open House on Tuesday, December 20 from 6 – 9PM and Wednesday, December 21 from 2 – 5PM. Call the church office if you need directions to our home.
Christmas Day Worship will be at 10AM. I am looking forward to sharing some time with our Church Family on this most Holy Day.
Have a great week, and may the God of all PEACE bring you PEACE today.

The missionary wrote, “Never in the history of the nation has a government official asked for prayer from the Christian Church. Things are shifting in heavenly places this day over the nation. Please join with our brothers and sisters in prayer. Our God is greater and able. May His name be great in the nation of Thailand.” Click here to read more in the NCN News story.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas everywhere you go! I wake up to the decorations at our house. I come to church and see decorations all the way. The sanctuary has been beautifully decorated. We are preparing for the coming of the King!
Have you made the proper preparations in your own heart and life? Have you forgotten the Reason for the Season? Make way the path for the Lord. Are you ready for His coming?
We had an absolutely wonderful day this past Sunday. You have been faithful with your giving, our services were exciting, even our Church Board Meeting went very well! The choir is practicing for next Sunday, the children are working hard for their presentation on the 18th, the open houses have begun and the parties are scheduled. Just remember to take time for Jesus this Christmas Season.

Gallatin Nazarene Weekly Update –November 30, 2011
On Monday morning I meet with a wonderful group of men. No program, no time frame, they just sit and talk (and I turn the recorder on to catch most of it). They are some of the most encouraging men I’ve been around in a long time and I value their counsel.
Ed Gallup usually shows up. It’s his time out of the house after caring for Mary Lou nearly 24/7 for the past 2 months. Most Mondays Ed will bring a pile of books and magazines from which we are free to choose to take. Recently he brought a book by Leonard Ravenhill that has gripped my heart. With a copywrite of 1971 it is remarkably up to date. Written to the pastor and the church he early on asks several questions that have the power to stop us in our tracks.
What obligation has a Holy God to a people who spend one hour in church on Sunday… and then spend several hours walking in the counsel of the ungodly and sitting with blaspheming sinners who profane His Holy Name?
What obligation has a Holy God to a people who allow a newspaper stand to have fifty-seven different magazines sporting nude pictures?
What obligation has a Holy God to a people who place on their coins “In God We Trust” then bar children from singing Christmas carols at school?
What obligation has a Holy God to a people who spend more per year on dog food than on the propagation of the Gospel?
As we proceed through this Christmas Season will you make a personal commitment to focus on the Christ? I know, you need to buy the stuff, and you need to make the trips, and you need to do all the things you think you need to do. But will you make it a priority to take time for the Master. Will you allow the King of Kings to make an impact on your Christmas plans?
I am going to focus on the Christ. And, borrowing again from Ravenhill, I am going to keep my eye on the Throne, my knees on the ground and my confidence in the fact that I am “seated with Christ in heavenly places!”
On this second Sunday of Advent we will focus on “Love.” God’s love for us and our love for God.
May God’s blessings be on you and your family throughout this Glorious Season!
Pastor Hancock
Special Note:
John Tay has been chosen by the government of the Sudan to go on a special “Peace Mission”. John will be joining several other men and women on this trip to the Sudan and they will be leaving on December 15. The Sudanese government has provided for their airfare but John needs some assistance with his personal expenses for the trip. If you are able to help John in this mission effort, please mark your check accordingly or simply hand him some cash when you see him Sunday morning. We will be praying for John and his team in the first morning service this week.
We have a continuing partnership with the RT Fisher School and we accept donations for the school throughout the year. There is a collection box located in the church foyer for any food items you bring. Items needed include:
Microwaveable Meals (ex. Chef Boyardee pasta bowls that will fit into a gallon-sized zip lock bag)
Individual snacks (ex. small packs of cookies, fruit roll ups, etc)
Packages of Mini-Cereal Boxes
Peanut Butter Crackers/Cheese Crackers
Shelf Stable Mini-Milk cartons
Juice Boxes (any flavor)

Additional items needed for the RT Fisher Backpack program:
Shelf Life Milk
Microwave Meals
Cans of soup and chili
If possible some of the following:

During this Holiday Season we want to express our appreciation for the faculty and staff at RT Fisher. We try in the spring and fall to treat them to special luncheon and will plan to do that in the next couple of weeks. If you would like to make a contribution to help cover the small cost of this meal, please mark your check accordingly.
Music Notes from Brother Nick:
I have moved our Sunday rehearsal up to 3:00. I am asking all sound techs and anyone else involved in our Christmas program to please be present. So...our rehearsal this Sunday will be from 3:00 - 5:30.
Dress code for this week is Christmas colors...Green,Gold,Red, etc.

Gallatin Nazarene Weekly Update –November 22, 2011
Will you allow me to say, “WOW!”? Our Sunday service, “A Picture of Grace” was outstanding. God’s presence was powerful; the music was great and the testimonies – WOW! God is moving in our lives and it was great to see and hear what He is doing. Thank you to all of you who shared your cardboard testimony and to Terry Primeaux for being to so open and honest with our church family. Isn’t God good?
We must never underestimate what God is capable of doing.
The Community Thanksgiving Service last Sunday night was really good. A wonderful spirit of unity with good music and a challenging message made for a wonderful service. Sharing in Communion with the Family of God was very special as well.
Many of you picked up the book, Illuminate, for our Advent study. This book will guide you and your family through the Holiday Season. We will be following the format in our Sunday Worship times and I will be preaching from the texts that you will study through the week. This can be an exciting time of learning and growing for your family as well as our Church Family.
Your response was so good that I have ordered 10 more copies that will be here by Sunday morning. The book is available in the lobby and you’ll be able to pick it up on Sunday, November 27, the first Sunday of Advent.
Many of you have returned your Family Information Update form to the church office. Thank you for helping us to update our church family information. (We’ve included it at the end of this email.)
There will be NO Wednesday Family night activities tomorrow night (November 23).
Thanks for joining us on the journey!

Music Notes from Brother Nick:
Now that fall has arrived, we are preparing for Christmas. This is the best time to join the choir while the music is fresh and we are all learning together.
Nazarene Missions International Update from Barbara Fox:
Samaritan’s Purse: Shoeboxes--68 total were given! That is awesome! Thanks again to Shirley Oldham for getting the decorated boxes. It simplified finding and decorating a box. 68 shoeboxes equates to 68 children receiving gifts--some for the first time in their lives! Let's continue to pray when we think of those boxes, that not only will they be blessed by the gifts, but find Jesus as their savior.
Last Wednesday, November 16, 6PM – NMI Service with Dr. Frank and Sylvia Ruckman was a real treat! One person said it was the best missionary presentation she had seen! I'm so happy Sylvia is much better. They showed us pictures, including little brothers and sisters, caring for even smaller brothers and sisters, without parents, caring for each other--heartbreaking, but Jesus, through His people, is making a difference!
If you haven't given your Thanksgiving offering, it is not too late. Traditionally we receive a Thanksgiving offering for World Evangelism Fund.
Thanksgiving Offering for World Missions: In the Church of the Nazarene, Thanksgiving is closely identified with the great needs of world missions. Most cultures have a "harvest " celebration, and that is often when the Thanksgiving Offering is received. In Canada, it is in October, in the United States, it's in November. No matter where you go around the world, you are likely to find a similar time during the year.
Traditionally, on the Sunday before Thanksgiving, we bring a special love offering for world missions. And since we are on a Faith Promise method of giving for missions, our traditional Thanksgiving Offering may mean one of several things to you:
--You didn't make a Faith Promise pledge for world missions...so you will want to bring a special Thanksgiving Offering, according to how the Lord has blessed you.
--Your Faith Promise was not for weekly giving, but a sizeable amount in two or three offerings a year for missions. You will want to make this one of those times.
--You made a Faith Promise...and you are current in payment...but the Spirit leads you to bring an additional amount at Thanksgiving.
--You made a Faith Promise, are up-to-date, and will bring your normal weekly amount.
--You made a Faith Promise, but are not up-to-date, and you will want to become current at Thanksgiving.
The Holy Spirit will talk to you about it if you'll ask Him. That's the very best way for certainty and faithfulness. And for all of us...haven't we really been given much?
Sri Lanka-- Larry's home and will be giving a report of his trip on Wednesday, December 7th. Thanks for your prayers. You may have already seen him. He missed everyone!

Tis the season for the flu...and other nasty little viruses! We are seeing signs of the flu, as well as a crazy little bug called, Hand Foot and Mouth. But don't be too alarmed; both viruses are common and nothing major to worry about. Pastor Emily has personally sanitized each nursery to guard against spreading the 'joy' of this 'season'.

Gallatin Nazarene Weekly Update –November 16, 2011
God is good, all the time! All the time, God is good! We had a wonderful day this past Sunday as we continued to celebrate our 75th Anniversary. It was nice to hear from our previous pastors and how about that new piano! Wasn’t it wonderful that Pat could be with us in the second service? Her family was so proud of her and we are grateful to her for her years of service to this church and God’s Kingdom. Continue to pray for Pat as she recovers. She appreciates your cards and visits.
Thank you to all of you who had a part in our Thanksgiving luncheon! The turkey was great and everything else was outstanding. What a good time of fellowship around the table. We are family and it is good to get together.
Thanks also to the Commonwealth Quartet! Those guys are wonderful and it was a special treat to hear them sing with Brother Nick and John Oldham playing along with them.
Remember that this Sunday, November 20 we will change our schedule just a bit for a very special service entitled, “A Portrait of Grace.” Sunday school will be at 9am with the morning worship service at 10am. We will be featuring “Cardboard Testimonies” as well as a powerful testimony from one of our own members.
If you are planning to share your cardboard testimony (and anyone with a testimony is welcome to share) please meet with me at 9am on Sunday in the sanctuary. I will go over the details of the service with you and answer any questions you may have. We will have some cardboard and large markers if you have not prepared your testimony in advance. We have contacted some people personally, but don’t think if no one has said anything to you that you cannot participate.
The intent of this special service is to build community and help us to understand one another better. The idea is not to focus on who we used to be, but who we are today with God’s help.
This can be a powerful time if you will be willing to express what God has done in your life.
Sunday, November 20, 6PM - Community Thanksgiving Service. First Baptist Church, Winchester Street.
Don’t miss this very special service.
I have a very special book available to our families entitled: Illuminate. The cost is only $5.00. Illuminate is an Advent study that will guide you and your family through the Holiday Season. We will be following the format in our Sunday Worship times and I will be preaching from the texts that you will study through the week. This can be an exciting time of learning and growing for your family as well as our Church Family. The book is available in the lobby. You’ll want to pick it up by Sunday, November 20 as it begins with the first Sunday of Advent on November 27.
If you have not done so, please return your Family Information Update form to the church office as soon as possible so that we may update your family information. (We’ve included it at the end of this email.)
Our Wednesday Family night activities are now at 6pm. Potluck dinner in the FLC at 5:15.
I want to thank you for your prayers and encouragement throughout these past 7 months. JoAnne put the last brush stroke on the living room walls last night and we want to be ready to welcome you into our home during the Christmas Season. We will be letting you know the details of our open house soon.
Thanks for joining us on the journey!
Don't forget our Wednesday night potluck! Dinner begins at 5:15. Our menu tonight is Soup and Salad, so bring a pot of soup or a salad to share.
Here is our monthly menu:
1st Wed of month - Casserole Night
2nd Wed of month - Taco/Mexican Night
3rd - Soup and Salad Night
4th - Italian and Salad Night
5th - WILD CARD NIGHT - bring whatever you want!
Please come prepared to assist with clean up. Cleaning up after a potluck takes only minutes if everyone takes a moment to help.
We have a continuing partnership with the RT Fisher School and we accept donations for the school throughout the year. There is a collection box located in the church foyer for any food items you bring. It's hard to imagine that when we share a pack of mini-juice boxes we are sharing Jesus, but the scriptures tell us it's true.
Items needed include:
Microwaveable Meals (ex. Chef Boyardee pasta bowls that will fit into a gallon-sized zip lock bag)
Individual snacks (ex. small packs of cookies, fruit roll ups, etc)
Packages of Mini-Cereal Boxes
Peanut Butter Crackers/Cheese Crackers
Shelf Stable Mini-Milk cartons

Additional items needed for the RT Fisher Backpack program:

With Thanksgiving drawing near, we want to express our appreciation for the faculty and staff at RT Fisher. We try in the spring and fall to treat them to special luncheon and will plan to do that in the next couple of weeks. If you would like to make a contribution to help cover the small cost of this meal, please mark your check accordingly.
Music Notes from Brother Nick:
Now that fall has arrived, we are preparing for Christmas. This is the best time to join the choir while the music is fresh and we are all learning together.
Also, I am aware that there are those with musical talent who don’t wish to sing in the choir. I am looking for you because I am preparing to organize different vocal groups, trios, quartets, etc. and also instrumentals. I have already spoken to some and I urge you to prayerfully consider becoming involved in the music program. Not only will our congregation be blessed by your talent, but also you will be blessed by using it. I am easy to reach here at the church office. God bless you.
Nazarene Missions International Update from Barbara Fox:
Samaritan’s Purse: Shoeboxes--100 of them have been picked up and 25 are back. Please bring them to church as soon as you can. This Sunday, November 20 is the "drop dead date" as the publishers say. I'm taking them to Hendersonville and that is the last day they will take them, until next year.
This Wednesday, November 16, 6PM – NMI Service with Dr. Frank and Sylvia Ruckman sharing their experiences from their recent trip to Africa. You don't want to miss this!
Next Sunday is the last Sunday before Thanksgiving. Traditionally we receive a Thanksgiving offering for World Evangelism Fund. I hope you will read my Missions Newsletter to find out more about it.
Sri Lanka - I've heard from Larry and the team is doing well. The work is going well. 10 to 15 pastors a day have come to help build the second floor of district center. I'm hoping he will share in December about his time there. Thanks for your prayers. He will be home late Sunday night.
December is Nazarene Compassionate Ministries Month.
You can go online and explore this year's NCM Giving Calendar which is a fun and interactive activity to do with your family every day during the month of December. Find out more at ncm.org/givingcalendar
Helping to reach the world through radio costs only $4.00 per minute for broadcasting time. We plan to have a breakfast to raise money for World Broadcast in late winter, early spring.
--Your Faith Promise was not for weekly giving, but a sizable amount in two or three offerings a year for missions.
From Fireside Class:
Pastor Wade asked the Fireside Class to consider giving for a cistern in Haiti as a class project. The goal was to pay for one cistern, which would be $1000.00. The info we received said that $1000.00 would give 1000 people clean water for one year in Haiti. One person outside our class gave a large amount. (If you want to give, I'm sure we can still include it--even if you are not in our class.) A few weeks ago, the amount was exceeded by $815.00 and so another offering was taken to purchase two cisterns. This time, the offering received was $360. The additional $175 will be used to purchase filters for locations where the water must be purified before it is safe to drink.
Thanks so much, Barbara Fox, NMI President
Children’s Ministries News from Pastor Emily:
NEWS FROM KIDcity:
Remember, this week is a special Family Worship Service! There will be no KIDcity Elementary Worship Services. Elementary children will worship in the sanctuary with their families to be a part of the "Portrait of Grace" Service.
There are lots of exciting things going on in KIDcity and TOTtown during the months of November and December:
Mark your calendar for Sunday, December 18! Our TOTtown Handbell Choir will be performing during both morning services, and our KIDcity Elementary kids will give you a sneak peak at their Christmas Musical which they will perform Sunday night at 6:00. And don't forget about the annual preschool nativity at the end of the evening musical! Make sure you sign up your preschooler to be a part of that special moment!
Our TOTtown Handbell Choir and Elementary Musical Rehearsals for the month of November are as follows:
Wednesday night, November 16 at 6:00
Sunday night, November 27 at 6:00
These are the only two rehearsals left this month, so please make every effort to be here to participate. We have five rehearsals planned for the month of December. You can pick up your December rehearsal calendar at KIDcentral.
Our annual Christmas Party and Parent's Night Out is scheduled for Friday, December 9 from 6:00-10:00. Children ages 1 to 12 are invited to take part in our celebration. (Last year we had 30 kids!) Please sign up at KIDcentral so Pastor Emily can plan accordingly.
However, you can assist us by adhering to our Nursery Policy, which states:
"We cannot accept children in the Nursery/classroom who have: a temperature of 100 F or higher; an undiagnosed or contagious rash, diarrhea, vomiting (within a previous 24 hour period), conjunctivitis (pink eye), or a runny nose with a discharge that is not clear."
We appreciate your cooperation in keeping our nurseries and classrooms as germ-free as possible!
This week's nursery ministers are:
WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 16:
CRIB/TODDLER - Margie Carter & NEED HELP
THREE'S/PRE K - Lelia Coward & NEED HELP
SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 20:
1ST SERVICE HOST: Loren Speicher

Pastor Emily Mingledorff
Director of Children's Ministries
Gallatin First Church of the Nazarene
SPECIAL NOTE ABOUT OUR CRIB NURSERY:
We are requesting that ONLY MOMS enter the Crib nursery for the next few months. We have several nursing mothers right now, and they have requested that we keep the Crib nursery as private as possible so they can nurse their infants. Thanks so much for your cooperation in this matter.
Background check reminder: If you are one of our many volunteers who work with children younger than 18 years of age and you have not done so, it is imperative that you complete a background check as soon as possible. Check with Mrs. Emily or the Children’s page on the website for directions and information.
We must be in compliance with a court order from a pending court decision that affects every local church in the United States and Canada. Thank you for your cooperation.
Student Ministries Update from Pastor Stephen:
We had a wonderful time at Extravaganza this past weekend. Our teens did a great job!! Pastor Daniel Meadow challenged and reminded the teens that they can still be Christians, live a life of Holiness, and be Missional while playing sports. Zach Foster, Todd Jones, Blake Hunter and Logan Martin participated in Flag Football. Cole Hodge stepped in and played a game as well. Todd Jones made the all-star team for Flag Football. Logan, Todd and Blake participated in Co-ed Softball and all three of them made the all-star team to earn a spot to go to TNT @ TNU in April. Jaryd York Pinkerton participated in Dodgeball and Soccer. Michael Foster participated in Men’s Soccer and is an alternate for the all-star team to go to TNT @ TNU. D’anna Chaniott won 2nd place in Ladies Senior High Tennis, 1st place in Ladies Senior High Table Tennis, and also made the all-star team for Ladies Soccer.
Katherine Sullivan, Cole Hodge, and Julie Stewart joined us as spectators to support their fellow teens as they participated in the various events. I want to say THANKS to the parents who were able to come out to Extravaganza and show their support!
The “Arts” Extravaganza event is February 3rd & 4th, 2012 at Clarksville Park Lane Church of the Nazarene. The registration cost for each student is $45. If the student has already registered and was a participant/spectator at the “Athletics” event, his or her registration fee is already covered. I will have registration forms available to any students who are interested in participating.
Our quizzers will be traveling to Clarksville First this upcoming Saturday for a District Quiz Meet. Gallatin Nazarene Weekly Update –November 9, 2011
Hasn’t God been good to us? I’ll tell you that I was startled by what Dr. Middendorf said last Sunday about the average lifespan of the typical church – 40 – 60 years! We are truly an exception. You have been faithful and willing to adjust to our culture through a multitude of changes. Some of you remember when the 47 X 100 foot lot on Prince Street was enough to meet our needs. And then it wasn’t. Many of you remember when the old sanctuary was enough to meet our needs. And then it wasn’t. A new educational building, a Family Life Center, a new sanctuary. New pastors, new staff members, new programs. The changes continue. And God is still faithful.
What will we look like in the next 75 years? Most of us will not be around to see it but we can still play a part in shaping it. If we will continue to seek the face of God, He will continue to bless us. And, as He blesses us, we can be a blessing to future generations. Thank you for your faithfulness.
This Sunday, November 13, we will celebrate our 75th Anniversary. What an exciting time. The Commonwealth Quartet will be featured in both morning services and will perform in concert at 1:30. We will have two AM services and Sunday school at the regular times. Our plan is to dedicate the piano and honor Pat Pullias for her years of service to this church and God’s Kingdom in the second service. She is excited about being here with her family. Our fall Thanksgiving Dinner will be a noon.
On Sunday November 20 we will change our schedule just a bit for a very special service entitled, “A Portrait of Grace.” Sunday school will be at 9am with the morning worship service at 10am. We will be featuring “Cardboard Testimonies” as well as a powerful testimony from one of our own members. At 6PM we will meet at the First Baptist Church, Winchester Street, for the Community Thanksgiving Service. Don’t miss these very special services.
If you have not done so, please return your Family Information Update form to the church office as soon as possible so that we may update your family information. (We’ve included it at the end of this email.)
Our Wednesday Family night activities are now at 6pm. Potluck dinner in the FLC at 5:15.

We have a continuing partnership with the RT Fisher School and we accept donations for the school throughout the year. Individual snacks (ex. small packs of cookies, fruit roll ups, etc)
Packages of Mini-Cereal Boxes
Peanut Butter Crackers/Cheese Crackers

Music Notes from Brother Nick:
Hasn’t the choir been sounding great? With a change in their rehearsal schedule, the sanctuary choir now rehearses at 4pm on Sunday afternoon. As a result, Brother Nick has been seeking several people who would be willing to assist our choir members with childcare during that time. If you are able to assist, please contact Brother Nick at the church office.
Nazarene Missions International Update from Barbara Fox:
Samaritan’s Purse: Shoeboxes--100 of them have been picked up and 20 are back. We need the boxes back at the church by Sunday, November 20, but earlier is better.
Helping to reach the world through radio costs only $4.00 per minute for broadcasting time. The video of Padina reminded me of how important broadcasting is to the world. You can still contribute to World Broadcasting.
Sunday night the Kaney's shared their heart about what God has called them to do. God told Ben to put down the newspaper, the magazines, turn off the tv, and by reading His Word, listen to Him--definitely a life changing experience for him and his family.
Monday, Larry, Roger and friends went on their first mission trip to Sri Lanka. Please remember to pray for them, as they represent Christ to that country. They are not there yet, but soon will be.
Wednesday, November 16, 6PM – NMI Service with Dr. Frank and Sylvia Ruckman sharing their experiences from their recent trip to Africa.

Student Ministries Update from Pastor Stephen:
I want to send a huge thanks to Tammy and Bubba Wallace for hosting us, the teens, and parents for the bonfire this past Sunday night. We had a great night of fellowship. Also, a big thanks to those who helped provide the delicious chili! Bethany and I have felt incredibly welcomed this past week and we thank you all for making us feel at home.
Although it has come upon us very quickly, I am excited to announce that Extravaganza is this upcoming weekend at Hermitage Church of the Nazarene. This is the first of two weekend events to prepare for TNT @ TNU in April. They have split up the “Athletics” and the “Arts” events on different weekends this year. This is to increase more opportunity for the teens to participate in more events. The “Athletics” portion is this Friday and Saturday and I am excited about taking our kids to this great district event.
We will be leaving the church at 4:30 Friday afternoon. We will be driving directly to Hermitage Church of the Nazarene, so the teens will need to eat before coming to the church. We will come back to Gallatin and spend Friday night at the church so the teens will need to bring sleeping bags, pillows, change of clothes etc.
We will head back down to Hermitage Church of the Nazarene Saturday morning at 7:00am to continue the sports competitions. The awards ceremony begins at 4:30pm, so we should be back to the church between 6:00-7:00pm on Saturday evening.
I know it is short notice; however there is still time to participate in Extravaganza. For teen participants or spectators the cost is $45 and the form needs to be notarized. (This price includes both the “Athletics” and “Arts” events in February and also covers lunch Saturday). There will be concessions available for an additional cost.

Isn’t it exciting to be a part of God’s family? It is so good to know that He is guiding us and we trust His direction. As we enter this new season of life together, I am glad for all of us that you don’t have to rely only on what I have to offer. I am relying on Christ, Who gives me strength, and like Paul, I’ll challenge you to “follow me as I seek to follow Christ.” We are in for some really great days and I believe that God has a wonderful plan for our church and our community. The thing is: He wants to start His work in our hearts. Individually. We trust Him.
We had a great time on Sunday night for the Upward Celebration and Trunk or Treat. Hundreds of children and adults swarmed our campus and it was a wonderful event. Thank you for your support of our ministries and for reaching out to our community.
We have a lot planned for the next couple of months and you’ll want to be sure and be a part of all that is going on. Do you just want to show up for church or do you want to be involved in ministry?
Thanks for joining us on the journey.
Don’t forget: Starting TONIGHT! Wednesday, November 2 our Wednesday night activities will begin at 6pm.
Pastor Hancock
Juice Boxes (any flavor)
Individual fruit cups or applesauce cups
Music Notes from Brother Nick:
Hasn’t the choir been sounding great? With a change in their rehearsal schedule, the sanctuary choir now rehearses at 4pm on Sunday afternoon. As a result, Brother Nick has been seeking several people who would be willing to assist our choir members with childcare during that time. If you are able to assist, please contact Brother Nick at the church office.
Samaritan’s Purse: Shoeboxes--already decorated and ready to fill - are available! We need to have the boxes back at the church by Sunday, November 20. See Barbara Fox for more details.
You can still contribute to World Broadcasting. Helping to reach the world through radio costs only $4.00 per minute for broadcasting time.
Wednesday, November 16, 6PM – NMI Service with Dr. Frank and Sylvia Ruckman sharing their experiences from their recent trip to Africa.
UPWARD Flag Football and Cheerleading:
Pastor Emily received this email from the parent of one of our Upward cheerleaders:
I wanted to tell you what a great experience we have had the last 2 years with this program. Our daughter was on the Dazzlers this year. And couldn't wait to return after last year's experience. We are members and regular attendees at First Baptist Gallatin. But if we didn't have a home church, I would feel so welcome at your church.
I have shared with so many people our positive experience. I appreciate the work you do to share God's love in our community and the personal experience you give my daughter that Jesus is not just for Sunday morning and Wed night but for everyday in everything we do.
Thank you to everyone who has worked so hard to make our UpWard Flag Football season a success. We especially thank Loren and Shonnie Speicher for their hard work and dedication to this ministry.
Did you know that had more than 300 people in the sanctuary on Sunday night for the Upward Celebration? Did you know that we had more than 600 people on our campus for Trunk or Treat?
Thank you to everyone who participated in reaching out to our community during this event!
Children’s Ministries News from Pastor Emily:
Our preschoolers have been learning about the salvation scarecrow each week in October. Ask them what each week's patch represents, and they can tell you the salvation story!
We are working on our Christmas Musical presentation in KIDcity, so please make sure your kids are at as many rehearsals as possible. Our performance date is December 18; our preschoolers will perform in the morning service, and our Elementary kids will perform in the evening service with the preschool nativity. (If you are interested in your child being part of the Preschool Nativity, please sign up at KIDcentral. Mrs. Lelia needs to know how many costumes to get ready!)
Children with speaking parts will be practicing Wednesday nights with Mrs. Emily. The choir portion of the Musical will continue to be rehearsed Sunday nights.
TOTtown Handbell Choir will also begin practicing on Wednesday nights through November.
As we draw closer to our performance date, we are requesting more volunteers to assist us with preparation. If you can assist during rehearsals, please let Mrs. Emily know.
Make plans to be here on Wednesday night, November 30 for our Family Hanging of the Greens activities. Mrs. Emily will lead us through Christmas symbolism and families will be assigned areas of the church to decorate. Dinner will be provided!
Our annual PARENT'S NIGHT OUT/Kid's Christmas Party will be December 9 from 6:00-10:00. Please let us know if your child will be attending so we can plan accordingly.

Gallatin Nazarene Weekly Update –October 26, 2011
It was Grandpa’s philosophy that there can be too much of a good thing. A young preacher was scheduled to preach in the evening service, but in the afternoon he began to get hoarse. He asked Grandpa what to do to relieve it.
Grandpa advised: “Get some brandy and pour a little in a glass and fill the rest of the glass with water. Take it into the pulpit and as you preach, just sip it a little at intervals and your voice will clear up.”
After the sermon was concluded, the young preacher asked Grandpa how he liked it. “Well, in all candor, I didn’t,” said Grandpa. The young preacher asked him why not?
Grandpa answered, “Several reasons. First, I didn’t say put Sherry in it. Secondly, I said sip it, not gulp it. Thirdly, the Sermon on the Mount was not preached in New York City. Fourthly, there are Ten Commandments, not 14. And in the fifth place, when David killed Goliath he used a sling and a stone – he didn’t stomp his insides out.” (Received from the library of Ed Gallup)
We are excited about welcoming Stephen and Bethany Kihnley to our Ministry Team and to our church family. Stephen will begin on November 1 as our Director of Student Ministries. I know that our teens are excited and that God will bless our church. Be praying for Stephen and Bethany during this time of transition.
Our Work and Witness Team recently returned from Africa and we appreciate the good work by team leader Dr. Frank Ruckman. We will be hearing a report about their trip on Wednesday, November 16.
Remember that our UpWard Celebrationand Trunk or Treatare not just children’s events. These are events designed to get new people on our campus and to build a bridge between our church and our community. There will be families here that we may never reach unless we make an effort to minister to them in these events. See Pastor Emily for more details and to be involved.
Don’t forget: Starting Wednesday, November 2 our Wednesday night activities will begin at 6pm.
Thanks for joining us on the journey!
If you were unprepared or unable to contribute at the Hall’s Benefit Concert, you may still give an offering. Mark you check accordingly and we will make sure it gets to them.
We also want to rejoice with Pastor Poole and Julie – they have a contract on their house!

Children’s Ministries News:
Don't forget all the fun events going on in GFCN's KIDcity Children's Ministries:

Fireside Room for Elementary Kids (and in TOTtown for our preschoolers).
We will be doing all things pumpkin for this special night!
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 29 - 9:00 - Last Upward games at Benny Bills Elementary.
This would be a great day to attend the games and greet the families who have supported our Upward efforts during the 2011 season.
1:00 - UPWARD STAFF VS. PARENTS GAME!
You don't want to miss this! Hamburgers and hotdogs, afterward!
SUNDAY, OCTOBER 30 - 9:00 & 10:45 CANDY CORN PARTY in KIDcity.
Make sure you kids come to this 'sweet' party, where we will be celebrating the Trinity!
6:00 - UPWARD CELEBRATION AND AWARDS- Our ceremony will feature magic from Stephen Bargentze and Pastor Tim Hancock! All our Upward participants will be recognized.
7:00 - TRUNK OR TREATin the parking lot. Please arrive by 6:30 to set up your trunks! Make sure you have several bags of candy on hand because we should have quite a turn out!
Not sure what to do for a theme? I've got a few ideas: Do a '50's' Theme, with record cut outs hanging from your trunk; do an 'Under the Sea' theme, with balloons and streamers as jellyfish; do a Disney's Cars theme, and make fun eyes and buck-teeth for your car (Mater!); how about a 'nursery rhyme' theme - - Little Miss Muffet, or the Itsy Bitsy Spider; or do a 'board game' theme, using a Monopoly board or Candyland, and dress up as the characters. Or if you want to do a Bible theme, think about these: The Red Sea - dress like a red 'c' (ha!); Moses and God's Top Ten; Jonah and the whale - the car can be your whale... If you need more ideas, give me a call!
TOTtown REMINDERS:
There will be no bell choir rehearsal this Sunday night due to our Upward festivities. Rehearsals will continue in November.
Our preschoolers have been learning about the salvation scarecrow each week in October. Ask them what each week's patch represents, and they can tell you the salvation story!
DADS, GRANDPAS, UNCLES, BROTHERS, FRIENDS, COUNTERS AND USHERS, PLEASE NOTE: AT ANY TIME YOU WALK INTO THE CRIB NURSERY, THERE MIGHT BE A NURSING MOTHER. Odds are that you will be more embarassed than the mom, because she does this sort of thing for a living these days:) But seriously, please remain outside the door of the nursery so our moms have the freedom to nurse in private. Thanks so much for your cooperation in this matter.
CHILDREN'S MUSICAL REHEARSAL SCHEDULE:
There will be no rehearsal this Sunday night for KIDcity nor TOTtown. Our rehearsal schedule will pick up again on Sunday nights in November. Keep listening to your cd!
PLEASE NOTE: I will begin rehearsals for those with speaking parts on Wednesday nights in November. If your child has a speaking part in the Musical, please make sure they are at Wednesday night rehearsals. If they miss more than two rehearsals, their part will be given to someone else. Thank you for your cooperation!
