Gallatin Nazarene Weekly Update – August 31, 2010

A New Day and a Great Beginning…

 What a pleasure to meet Dr. Bryce Fox and his family. He will be with us during this time of transition and we are definitely excited about what God has in store over the weeks to come. Have you been praying over your stone? Are you looking for opportunities to remove the boulder between others and the God of life? God wants to partner with you to help others!

Teens! Great Job Sunday Night…

Sunday evening our youth department led us in worship and Pastor Billy preached a wonderful message of encouragement. Thanks to Pastor Billy and all of our teens for stepping in and helping out.

“Upward” Season is HERE…

Our 2nd Flag Football & Cheerleading season is beginning. There is still a need for volunteers in some vital areas:

  • Prayer Partners – this league needs to be bathed in prayer. Sign up to be a “prayer partner” this week at the Welcome Center! You will receive specific Upward requests.
  • Player Scholarships – many of our players need financial assistance. The league fee is $70, and we ask every player to cover at least half. Would you consider a $35 scholarship for 1 or 2 players? Right now, the total scholarship need is estimated at $400. Place your gifts on the offering plate, and mark them “Upward Scholarships.”

Games begin the second Saturday of September and go through October. All games are played in Gallatin, on Saturday mornings, at Benny Bills Elementary School. If you have questions about the league, or would like to help, please contact Loren & Shonnie Speicher at 615-423-9906 or 1stnazupward@comcast.net. What a great opportunity to reach families with the Good News!

New Ministry being revitalized…

There is a new ministry we started a couple of years ago that we are trying to get going again. The HIT team is a ministry of the church targeted toward those with handyman skills. This group will be called upon occasionally to help with small projects for those in our church who are not able. Screen door for a widow, a broken step for an elderly couple…the possibilities are endless and the rewards are as well. Please sign up in the Welcome Center for this exciting new ministry.

Because of Christ … Your Pastoral Staff

Tuesday, August 2, 2010--Pastor's Newsletter

Our prayers lay the track down on which God's power can come. Like a mighty locomotive, his power is irresistible, but it cannot reach us without rails." Watchman Nee

    I hope you have enjoyed these Weekly Updates over the last 3+ years. Hopefully, they have helped each of you to have a better idea of what's happening at the church and to feel more a part of the Gallatin Nazarene Community. Again, I can't emphasize enough how much Julie, Jackson, Kurtis, and I love and appreciate you! You have consistently demonstrated Christ's love to us, and been willing to listen and follow Jesus' call to "make disciples" in and around Gallatin. Don't stop now! The Church has never been and will never be defined by a lone pastor, but by the heart and sacrifice of God's people following the way of Jesus and the leadership of the Holy Spirit. Even though my family will be leaving Gallatin after Sunday, August 22, God's Presence remains! God has great days ahead for the church, so keep your eyes on Jesus.
    As far as transition goes, your Church Board will make contact with our District Superintendent, Dr. Larry Leonard and set up a meeting to initiate an interim ministry plan, as well as a search for your next Senior Pastor. Be prayerful and patient as your Church Board represents you in this important task. Also, keep praying for and encouraging the ministry staff. In the absence of a Senior Pastor, they will pick up some additional responsibilities and burdens. Lift these leaders and the church in prayer every day!

Great "Back-to-School" Day!...
    Thanks to Tom Phelps for his outstanding leadership last Sunday! Wasn't it great to see all of those kids up front for Sunday School promotions? Thanks to Tom and our faithful teachers for loving and educating our kids in a Christian atmosphere. Also, a big THANK YOU to Mr. Bob Cotter, Principal at RT Fisher. He told us on Sunday AM (in the early service) how important the support of our church is to their school. Thanks to all who brought school supplies for the RT Fisher shower Sunday night! if you have questions about how to get involved in this "school adoption" ministry, please contact Denise Nash at nashdenise@gmail.com.

Join Us This Wednesday at 6:30pm for a Special Time of Prayer...
    You are invited to the sanctuary at 6:30pm this Wednesday for a special time of prayer for our church. I will briefly address my transition to Midland Valley (copies of my resignation letter will be available in the foyer), and we will spend time together in worship and prayer. Children and teens will still be meeting in their regular Wed. PM locations, but may come into the sanctuary if they desire.

"Help me...

      Always to use my time and my life wisely and well;

      Always to be considerate of others;

      Always to realize all that is done for me, and to show by my good and cheerful

conduct that I am grateful for it.

Hear this my prayer, for Jesus' sake. Amen. -

William Barclay

"Discover the Missing...Faithfulness"

    Last Sunday AM, we looked at how kindness, goodness, and gentleness are a vital part of our witness for Christ. The above prayer by William Barclay is helpful in growing this fruit! This Sunday AM, our series continues by highlighting "faithfulness." At 8:30am, Lance Ackridge from Upward Sports will be with us to give a report / challenge on our Flag Football & Cheerleading ministry / league that kicks off its second season in a few weeks! Then, at 10:45am Darla Chaniott will bring a report to the congregation from her recent 3 week medical mission trip to Haiti. If you want to hear Darla's report, please come to the 10:45am service! Also, Barbara Fox has asked me to attach a "mission update" (report from one week of Darla's Haiti trip) to this newsleter so you can read more about the church's response in Haiti. In each AM service this Sunday I will preach on the "fruit" of faithfulness. Our study of Romans will continue at 6pm this Sunday.

"200 in 2" Update...

That means we still have $130,000 to go! Have you turned in your pledge card yet? Children's Day Trip - Tuesday, July 20...
From Pastor Greg: "We are planning a Day Trip for Tuesday, July 20, to Mammoth Cave in Kentucky.  We will leave the church at 8:30 AM & return by 4 PM.  The cost is $8 for children ages 6-12 and $12 for adults.  Everyone needs to pack a lunch and bring extra drinks for the day.  Also, bring money for souvenirs.Preschoolers are welcome, but must be accompanied by an adult. We are in need of a few drivers and a lot of chaperones. You can sign up by e-mailing nashnaz@aol.com with the names of those in your family interested in going. I am working on plans for the last Tuesday of July (27th).  Be watching for more details."

"Back-to-School Sunday" - August 1

    Join us on Sunday, August 1 for a special emphasis on the importance of our schools! On Sunday AM, Children's Sunday School Promotions will be highlighted, special prayer time will occur for all students, teachers, and school staff, and we will honor our teachers with a small gift. Then, following our 6pm service, we will host our 2nd Annual School Supply Shower for R.T. Fisher Alternative School.

We began a beautiful partnership of prayer and mutual support with Principal Bob Cotter and the RT Fisher staff last year that we want to continue. Please watch upcoming bulletins and newsletters for more details on the shower and a list of needed supplies.

Sunday PM, August 8 - Dennis Gwizdala...

    Dennis (www.dennisgwizdala.com

) is an accomplished saxophonist, singer, and songwriter who will minister to us at 6pm on Sunday, August 8. He has been playing horns professionally since the age of 14, but says that "when he got saved at the age of 30, so did his horns!" Dennis has appeared on national television and radio throughout the country and has appeared with groups such as: The Booth Brothers, Anthony Burger, Squire Parsons, Gold City, and The Hoppers. Most importantly, Dennis wants to be used by God an encourager to fellow Christians, and to draw others to the Lord. Invite a friend!
